5 signings for Manchester United which came out of nowhere
So Manchester United signed for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mancs around the world are heavily excited regarding the promises it brings. Zlatan himself seems to have given up playing in the Champions League for at least a year just so that he could sign for the club. The move came as a surprise and it added to the excitement that is already building up about this upcoming season of the Premier League.
Over time this club has made some very astonishing signings. While not all of them clicked, they certainly came with high expectations at the beginning. Some were surprising because the players were virtually unknown and, as such, their move to this legendary club raised a lot of questions. Others, however, came completely out of the blue without any prior rumors and speculations- a feat that United seems to have repeated with the signing of Zlatan.
Here are 5 signings by Manchester United that materialised out of nowhere.
1) Radamel Falcao
The captain of the Colombian national team as well as their top scorer, created a huge stir when he came on loan to manchester United in 2014. El Tigre, as he is called, was one of the biggest Deadline Day signings that year and his deal took the summer spending amount to an all-time record of £834 million. He was one ferocious striker and his arrival brought a lot of promise to the club.
Previously in the transfer window, however, there was absolutely no indication that Manchester United was even interested in him. The big clubs in the race for signing Falcao were predominantly Liverpool and Manchester City.
However, the loan deal took place with an option to buy at the end of the season. His first appearance for the club invited loud cheers from the stands of Old Trafford but he did not live up to his ferocious reputation during the period of his stay at Manchester United as they passed over the offer of a buy-out.
He was sent, instead, on loan to Chelsea for one season with a similar buy-out option. As of now, Falcao is set to return to Monaco. He scored 4 goals in 29 appearances for Manchester United.
