5 transfers from Spain to England that didn't work out

Southampton v Arsenal - The Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round
Perez has already moved back to Deportivo on loan this season

#4 Roberto Soldado

Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur - Premier League
Soldado had a very frustrating stint with Tottenham

Roberto Soldado was considered one of the best strikers in Spain when he made his move to England.

The Spaniard had scored 24 goals in the 2012/13 La Liga season and a total of 59 goals in 101 league games for Valencia, meaning his ratio was better than a goal every two games. This was no mean feat in La Liga, especially when taking into account he was playing for Valencia and not Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Signing for Tottenham seemed to be the perfect move for him, having already made one step up from Getafe to Valencia after leaving Real Madrid in 2008 where he never got first-team action regularly.

But he never reached the heights in England that he did in Spain, and he became a part of the group of players that Spurs fans are most probably happy to see the back of now.

Spurs sold Gareth Bale and replaced him with numerous players, those being Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Christian Eriksen, and of course Soldado. Lamela remains at Tottenham and everyone knows how excellent Eriksen has been the past two seasons. However, the majority were flops, most definitely including Soldado considering he was bought for £27 million.

After two seasons, where his goals mainly came from the penalty spot, and there were only 16 in 76 in all competitions anyway, he moved back to Spain and joined Villarreal.
