Everton spent nearly £25 million on this attacking midfielder at the beginning of the 2017/18 season. He was sold just a year later, for less than half that amount. The Netherlands international was signed by his compatriot Ronald Koeman, who was soon sacked following his arrival.

The 25-year-old made a total of seven league appearances for Everton, and was largely a passenger in these games. Everton tried to loan him out following the arrival of Sam Allardyce, however, no deal was made and the midfielder spent the next five months on the sidelines before being sold.
