Cristiano Ronaldo is aging and has a lot of work to do if he is to catch up with the footballers with more trophies than him. One of his main competitors lies in his former rival Andres Iniesta.

The Spaniard has been an amazing player throughout his career, playmaking with the utmost quality and smoothness. Coming through the ranks of La Masia, Iniesta was a star player for Barcelona, winning a number of trophies in his 16-year career with the Catalan club.

He has won La Liga nine times, the UEFA Champions League four times, the Euro twice and the FIFA World Cup once. He's still actively playing for Vissel Kobe in the Japanese league.

Iniesta is tied with Maxwell for third spot on this list. The Brazilian defender played for a number of top clubs in his football career, namely Ajax, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

In the process he found success almost everywhere, winning the Spanish league twice, the Italian league thrice, the Dutch league twice and the French league four times. It has been more than four years since the left-back retired yet he remains one of the top players to have more trophies than Cristiano Ronaldo.

#2 Lionel Messi (38 trophies)

There are always going to be comparisons between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Both players have been phenomenal and it is only fair that the two players get an equal amount of respect. That being said, when it comes to trophies, the Argentine is quite ahead of the Portuguese.

Cristiano Ronaldo currently has four fewer trophies than Lionel Messi and it is a record he will be itching to break. The great Argentine forward has won it all at Barcelona, winning La Liga 10 times, the UEFA Champions League four times and most recently acquiring the Copa America trophy with Argentina.

With his move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, it will be interesting to see how successful he can be with the French club. Also, with Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Manchester United, the battle between the two greats of football has taken a unique turn.

#1 Dani Alves (43 trophies)

The former Barcelona defender remains the most successful footballer to date. With 43 trophies under his belt, Dani Alves is comfortably ahead of his competitors and is set to stay in this position for a considerable amount of time.

The dynamic right-back played for some top clubs including Barcelona, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. His most successful spell came with Barcelona as he won La Liga six times, the UEFA Champions League thrice and the FIFA Club World Cup thrice with the Catalan club. He has also won trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus and also with the Brazil national team.

He recently won an Olympic gold medal with Brazil, adding one more trophy alongside the two Copa America trophies won with the national team. Cristiano Ronaldo is at a significant distance from Dani Alves and it looks difficult to match up with the tally of trophies the Brazilian has won.
