AC Milan interested in signing Manchester United flop Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay’s time could be nearing its end at Old Trafford

AC Milan is reportedly said to have expressed its interest in signing Manchester United’s Memphis Depay. The Rossoneri are said to have plans for a possible loan move in January with an option to a permanent move in the next summer transfer window for a fee of around £24 million.

Signed under the reign of Louis Van Gaal, Depay chose United over PSG and Liverpool and joined the club on 7th May 2015 for a price of £25 million.

Depay is mainly known for his dribbling skills and long-range shooting ability; a playing style similar to former United star, Cristiano Ronaldo, with the 3 time Ballon d’Or winner himself stating that Memphis could be one of the best young players in the world.

Memphis arrived in England following a successful season with PSV where he won the Eredivisie and finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 22 goals in 30 league games. The youngster made his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur and scored his first goal in the Premier League against Sunderland in a 3-0 win. However, not all things fell into plan for his as he finished the season with just 2 goals from 31 Premier League games.

The Dutchman didn’t fare well under former manager Louis van Gaal and has frustrated United fans by not delivering on the talent that he possesses. With the arrival of Jose Mourinho at the Theatre of Dreams, things have gone from bad to worse for the Dutchman.

Mourinho included Memphis Depay in the starting XI a mere two times; in the recent Europa League game against Feyenoord and the League Cup game against Northampton.

Memphis, who was named as the "Best Young Player" in the world by France Football Association in 2015, doesn’t seem to be in Mourinho’s plans as the Portuguese tactician has preferred Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Marcus Rashford over the Dutchman on the wings.

The Manchester United manager had earlier stated that he would give an opportunity to Memphis and also said that he was impressed with Dutchman’s performance in the 2014 World Cup.
