AC Milan part ways with manager Sinisa Mihajlovic

The Croat was part of the club for less than a season

AC Milan have announced the departure of their manager, Sinisa Mihajlovic, with immediate effect. The Croatian took charge of the team at the beginning of the season but a string of poor performances and the fact that the Milanese club are sixth in the Serie A with six games to go caused the club to take this action.

The club have gone ahead and announced the appointment of youth coach Cristian Brocchi as the first team manager at least till the end of the season. According to multiple Italian reports, it is believed that the club president Silvio Berlusconi met Brocchi over a long dinner before confirming him as the new manager.

Last night, hours before the official confirmation was out or sent to the press, Mihajlovic thanked his fans with an ambiguous Tweet.

AC Milan released a statement this morning confirming the departure of the manager and the new appointment. The statement read, "Sinisa Mihajlovic has been relieved of his role as AC Milan coach.

"The club would like to thank Mihajlovic for the dedication and hard work carried out this season.

"Cristian Brocchi will now be in charge of the first team until the end of the season. AC Milan would like to welcome Mr Brocchi and wish him all the best."

The legendary Milanese club have been unable to replicate their spoils from the 2011 season where they won the Serie A. Since then, they've finished in the top three only on two occasions even finishing as low as tenth last season.

The Italian club approached former manager Carlo Ancelotti to take over this season but the Italian turned down their approach choosing to choose German giants, Bayern Munich, instead.

Here's AC Milan Tweet in which they confirmed the departure.
