Rumour: Adam Lallana to push for Liverpool move after England failure

Adam Lallana is reportedly set to try and force through his move from Southampton to Liverpool next week according to the Liverpool Echo, once he returns to England following England’s failed World Cup campaign.

Lallana has been reduced to substitute appearances as England required just two games to receive their marching orders from the tournament in Brazil, but is hotly tipped to be granted a starting berth in England’s final group game with Costa Rica, with the game already a dead rubber.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the Southampton playmaker all summer with the Saints keen to hold out for £30 million after already rejecting a bid believed to be in the region of £25m, having already allowed Rickie Lambert to head to Anfield this summer.

However, once his duties in Brazil have reached their conclusion, Lallana intends holding talks with Southampton in the hope that they will grant his wishes to take up the challenge of Liverpool without having to submit a transfer request in the manner of Dejan Lovren.

Lallana has spent his entire professional career at Southampton after joining from Bournemouth as a 14-year-old and does not want to have the black cloud of a transfer request over his head upon his departure, despite his desire to leave for bigger challenges.

Southampton are playing hardball as they know that 25% of any fee would be owed to Bournemouth as per the terms of that 12-year-old agreement, but may have to lower their demands if the wishes of the player prove too strong.

Adam Lallana scored nine goals for Southampton this season, converting 18% of his shots on goal.
