Southampton captain Adam Lallana is expected to submit a transfer request in order to force through a move to Liverpool, who have submitted a £20 million bid.

Reports in the Daily Express claim that Lallana wants to join Liverpool and, as Southampton are unwilling to sell, will try to force the issue and hand in a transfer request.

Liverpool submitted a bid for Lallana earlier this week but it was, apparently, rejected. The fee in question is thought to be around £20 million but the Saints are hoping to push the Reds further up to around £25-30m.

Not only is Lallana motivated to move to Liverpool, he would like it to be completed soon and before the World Cup, the the thought process behind the alleged transfer request is to speed up negotiations.

It is thought that Liverpool would ideally like to complete the deal and get Lallana signed before he jets off to the World Cup in June so it could be a tight squeeze.

Southampton may use this to their advantage, though, and stretch it out long enough to see Lallana head off to Brazil before a deal is complete.
