Tony Fernandes (L), AirAsia chief executive officer, shakes hands with Zainudin Nordin (R), president of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS),
Malaysian airliner Air Asia will sponsor the Football Association of Singapore (FAS).
The sponsorship is for a three year period and amounts to S$1.8 million. It will include flights for the U-21 and U-23 squads as well as for the senior team, and also the National Football Academies’ age group and women’s teams.
This partnership will help boost Singapore football, which is already on the upward curve following the national teams recent victory of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup.
Air Asia has pledged to provide all the support that it possibly can for football in the country and also issue travel packages to fans, travelling for games away from home.
Tony Fernandes the Group CEO of Air Asia has said that commercial aspirations were not the driving force for the partnership but rather the involvement with football which pushed the organization to this association.
“Having AirAsia on the Singapore jersey is important, we want to put forward the message that we want to do better, that we want to dream. We hope to be part of that success; to help some of those young kids realise their aspirations.” he said.
Air Asia have made various sporting sponsorships in the past with English professional football team Queens Park Rangers, the ASEAN Basketball League, Formula 1 outfit Lotus and also Moto GP.
Zainudin Nordin the President of FAS said that he was delighted with this association with Air Asia and was thankful for their help and support to football in the nation.
