Andres Iniesta has paid his hometown club Albacete a loan of around £200,000 which will be used by the club to pay off the outstanding wages of the players.

The 29-year-old Barcelona midfielder has come to the rescue of a club where he was a youth team player.

The deadline of the payment was set as Thursday night and the club would have been relegated to Spain’s fourth tier in case they would fail to pay the outstanding wages of the players.

This is not the first time that Iniesta, who is a shareholder at the club, has donated the money to his hometown club as in 2011 he donated more than £300,000 to the club.
