Iniesta narrowly missed out on the Ballon d'Or in 2010 and 2012
Andres Iniesta is one of the greatest midfielders of this generation and many people believed that he deserved the Ballon d’Or ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Iniesta has come close to winning the prestigious award on two occasions, once in 2010 when he finished second and in 2012 where he finished third.
Though many fans across the world feel that Iniesta deserved to win the Ballon d’Or atleast once, the great man himself did not harbour any regrets on missing out on the top prize.
“It's not a thorn in my side. Nor do I think it is an injustice," he told Spanish TV channel Cuatro.
"Both Leo and Cristiano Ronaldo have been deserving of the award. Everyone has their own opinion.
"But being surrounded by great players and to be competing with them is significant."
The 32-year old Spanish midfielder has seen his team-mate Lionel Messi win the Ballon d’Or on five occasions while Cristiano Ronaldo has won it thrice.
Iniesta’s close control, first touch and dribbling skills are almost unparalleled and the midfielder has been hailed by many as the greatest Spanish player of all time. Although he has not had the best of seasons for Barcelona, there is no denying the class of the legendary playmaker
