Memorable Moment
It’s hard to pick one out in what has been a stunning season from the Argentine, but Di Maria’s assist against Kobenhaven displayed his flamboyant side as he pulled the skills out of his locker to set Ronaldo up with an easy header.
Di Maria opted for the Rabona approach, swinging his left leg behind his right to put the ball straight onto Ronaldo’s head as Real wrapped up an easy win on their way to the Champions League final, with Di Maria starring once again in the victory over Atletico.
Stand Out Stat
I don’t mean to keep banging on about it, but 17 assists this season. Nobody else has come close to matching that total, and it is four more than anybody managed to provide in the Premier League, while only Eden Hazard matched the 90 chances he created in La Liga.
Cost
It’s not going to be easy to prize Di Maria away from Real after a stunning season and United will need to use up a large chunk of their transfer kitty if they are to seal his signature.
But unlike Koke, signing Di Maria is a must for United, as the wings are a position of severe weakness for them and should it cost £40million or more to bring him to Old Trafford, it still represents value for money.
Final Verdict
This is a problem position for Manchester United currently and there are few better and absolutely none that are attainable than Di Maria in the world for that position.
He will cost a pretty penny, but with the paucity of United’s options on the flanks having become startlingly obvious over the course of the past year, the signature of Di Maria would represent a real coup for the Red Devils.
A rough estimate of £40m would prove value for money very easily and it would simply be a case of whether Di Maria would actually wish to join a club not currently in the Champions League, let alone out of Europe as to whether any deal should be persued.
If he is keen on being part of Van Gaal’s new look side and Real are willing to negotiate a sale, then he should be regarded as a must-buy at any price.
