Villarreal’s 24-year-old Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista is set to move to Arsenal for an unspecified transfer fee, as confirmed by the the Spanish club. Arsenal have been heavily linked to the defender recently, who is rated at £15m. Joel Campbell, despite having an impressive World Cup, has made only 4 appearances in the Premier League, and will spend the rest of the season on loan at Villarreal as an additional part of the Paulista deal.
Paulista was left out of Villarreal's 18-man squad to face Levante on Saturday, and is set for an imminent departure for English shores.
Whether Paulista will be given a work permit to play in the Premier League continues to be a question, because he is yet to make an international appearance; the size of his transfer fee will help the London club argue their case though.
