Rumour: Arsenal lining up Barcelona’s Sanchez to bolster lacklustre frontline

Alexis Sanchez: On the move?

Arsenal are plotting a £20million summer bid for Alexis Sanchez after it became apparent that the Chilean will be made available for transfer by Barcelona at the end of the season, according to the Mirror.

Sanchez had looked to have finally found his feet in Spain early on in the season after a difficult first campaign at Camp Nou, but his form has tailed off again in the second half of the season and Barcelona are believed to have given up on him and willing to sell him on.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that strikers are the priority for summer transfers after they found themselves heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud this season, with few alternatives available to the French forward.

Giroud has shown signs of fatigue at various periods of the season after being Wenger’s only option up top, with Yaya Sanogo still untested in the Premier League and Nicklas Bendtner having proven himself unreliable both on and off the pitch.

Sanchez has the added attraction that he can move into the wing position as well as playing as as the lead striker, and with Theo Walcott potentially set to miss the beginning of the season with his knee injury, that quality would help them deal with his loss in the early stages of the season.

Juventus are also keen on bringing Sanchez back to Italy and will rival Arsenal in any move for the Chilean starlet, with his stock in Serie A still very high following his successful spell with Udinese prior to his move to Spain.
