Rumour: Arsenal considering FC Barcelona duo as potential January signings

Arsenal are contemplating a £30m bid for FC Barcelona duo Pedro Rodriguez and Dani Alves in the upcoming January transfer window. The Gunners’ resources at the back have been stretched to the limit in the last few weeks which could force manager Arsene Wenger’s hand come January.

With the injury to Mathieu Debuchy, Arsenal are left with Calum Chambers as the only recognised right-back. At times, Chambers has had to fill in at center-back position as well which has affected his performances.

Barcelona right-back Dani Alves had revealed his desire of playing in the Premier League last month and despite his high wages, a move to Arsenal is a possibility.

The Brazilian is contracted with Barcelona until the summer of 2015 which could mean that they’ll sell him January in order to avoid losing him for free next summer. The 31-year old has appeared 309 times for Barcelona and has won 15 trophies since joining from Sevilla in 2008 for a fee of £23.5m.

Pedro set to leave after lack of opportunities

Winger Pedro Rodriguez could leave in January too after falling down the pecking order at Barcelona. The La Masia graduate has grown disillusioned as the arrival of Luis Suarez and the emergence of Munir El Haddadi have restricted his game time at the club.

The Spanish international has made 10 appearances so far in the league, but most of them have been from the bench. The 27-year old can be deployed as a left or right sided winger, the type of versatility that Arsenal need at the moment.

Barcelona’s transfer embargo could play a hand in the potential transfers as they won’t be allowed to sign anyone in the next two windows. According to the Express, Wenger will have competition from Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea who are monitoring the duo as well.
