Arsenal linked with sensational swoop for modern legend

Arsenal and Manchester City are keeping their eyes on Iker Casillas as he remains on the sidelines at the Santiago Bernabeu, according to the Daily Express.

Casillas has spent his whole career at Madrid but has fallen out of favour since the tail-end of last season under Jose Mourinho and hasn’t seen his fortunes change under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti.

His increased spell on the sidelines means plenty of clubs are interested in the World Cup-winning captain but City and Arsenal, in particular, are intrigued.

City’s Joe Hart has also been subjected to the substitutes’ bench in recent weeks due to poor form and Manuel Pellegrini may think about bring Casillas to the Etihad to replace the Englishman.

Arsenal do have a good goalkeeper in Wojciech Szczesny but it is understood that they believe Casillas to be far superior so could line up a move for the Spaniard.

He may be willing to do the unthinkable and leave the Spanish capital with the World Cup in Brazil looming, he won’t want to miss out on a place in the squad.

It will be interesting to see what materialises on the situation with January approaching. The Spaniard may feel the need to leave to gain first-team action ahead of next summer’s showpiece.
