Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has claimed that he plans to be Arsenal number one for a long time to come, if Wenger gives him the opportunity next season. The young Pole played many games at the end of last season owing to injuries to both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski. He also reiterated his desire to set right all that had gone wrong for Arsenal last season.

Szczesny harbours long term Arsenal dreams

Speaking to Arsenal Player, Szczesny said that a big opportunity stood in front of him and he planned to grab hold of it with both hands. He said-

“I realise there is a big chance in front of me and I might not give this No.1 shirt away to anyone else for the next 10 to 15 years.

“I realise there is a big chance ahead of me and I want to grab it with both hands.”

The young keeper admitted to being very excited about next season as it was his first full season at the club. He also regretted Arsenal’s mighty collapse at the end of last season, and stressed that all players were frustrated and were doing everything they could to set things right next season and finally end Arsenal’s trophyless streak. He said-

“It is my first full season in the first team so I have never been as excited as this. This year will be something new for me if I am lucky enough to start the season as Arsenal’s No.1.

“I’m very excited and very determined as well. If last season helped me, it helped me because I want so much more. I don’t want to have the feeling I had at the end of last season. So I am very excited.”

“Everyone in the squad is frustrated because of what happened last season. Let’s hope we can take that into this season and make sure that all the mistakes we’ve made are not going to happen again”

Szczesny has changed his squad number to 13, but many will hope that he gets the number one jersey after it was reported that Manuel Almunia might leave the club this summer. It remains to be seen whether Szczesny can build on his solid first season at the club, or is cast off as a one-hit wonder like many others. Stay tuned for more in this regard.
