There might finally be some good news for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal fans

What's the rumour?

Arsenal and Arsene Wenger are under intense pressure after a run of poor results, but there might finally be some good news for them as reports in Mirror Football claim that the Gunners have agreed personal terms with Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The same report also goes on to state that Aubmaeyang is being targetted by Arsenal as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez who is most likely to sign for Manchester United. One of Europe's leading strikers at the moment, the potential signing of Aubameyang could provide some much needed attacking depth and quality to the Arsenal side.

The Gabon striker's future has been subject to intense speculation in the January transfer window

Aubameyang has been in fine form this season, but he has faced some disciplinary problems which even saw him miss Dortmund's goalless draw against Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, when asked about Aubameyang, said:

"Auba has to talk to the coach and tell him whether he is ready to give everything for Borussia Dortmund. [Head coach] Peter Stoger and [sporting director] Michael Zorc will discuss it with him. I guess he understood [being dropped]. Let's see how it develops in the next days."

The heart of the matter

With Alexis Sanchez all set to leave in the coming days, Arsenal are desperate to add some attacking firepower. Aubameyang with his pace, goals, and skills is certainly suited to playing in the Premier League and his potential signing will also be a statement of intent for Arsenal.

Currently struggling in the League, Arsene Wenger will be hoping that the club ties down the deal for Aubameyang as soon as possible.

The Aubameyang to Arsenal rumour has been gaining pace in recent days and it will come as no surprise to anyone if the Gunners do indeed manage to sign the Gabon hitman.

Also, reports in Bild (via Daily Star) even claim that Aubameyang has been given permission to miss the next match in order to finalise his transfer, and we might see the move come to fruition in the coming days.

Author's take

Arsenal certainly need a marquee signing to lift the gloom around the Emirates and the potential arrival of Aubameyang will do just that. With the 28-year-old reportedly keen on a move away from Dortmund, Arsenal should do everything in their power to seal the deal as soon as possible.
