Arsenal fans can really look forward to next season as, if the latest transfer rumours are to be believed, the club is all set to smash their transfer record to sign Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic this transfer window.
According to the reports in Daily Mail, the Gunners could be ready to spend as much as £20 million to get his signature; Arsenal scouts during several trips to Italy rated the 23-year-old very highly.
But, there are a couple of difficulties with regards to this story
Firstly, the Mail reckons that Arsene Wenger has ‘£70 million’ to spend around. That seems highly optimistic, bearing in mind he was supposed to have had pretty much the same amount to spend last summer, and the summer before that as well.
Secondly, and which could have serious repercussions, is that there is a question mark over the the small matter of Champions League football. The Gunners are under pressure to make top four this year in the English Premier League and failure to do so would make it far harder (and may be even more costly) to bag players of Jovetic’s caliber.
