Orjan Nyland: On the way to the big leagues?

Arsenal are considering making a move for Molde’s highly-rated goalkeeper, Orjan Nyland, according to the Metro.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in search of cover for first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny after after his back-up, Lukasz Fabianski, left the north London club at the end of the season to join fellow Premier League side, Swansea City.

Fabianski will now fight with Michel Vorm to become the Welsh club’s number one goalkeeper, meaning Wenger must now look for an able deputy for Szczesny for played so well last season; it was by far the Polish goalkeeper’s most successful and consistent season with the Gunners.

Wenger has now been linked with Molde star Nyland, who has impressed in the Norwegian league. Despite links between Arsenal and Iker Casillas and Steve Mandanda, it has emerged that Nyland is top of Wenger’s pile in the goalkeeping department, ahead of the hugely successful Spaniard who has made several high-profile errors. More recently, Casillas was at fault for several goals against the Netherlands and Chile during Spain’s disappointing World Cup campaign.

Arsenal scouts have allegedly been impressed with his performances over the last 18 months and Wenger, too, is attracted to the 23-year-old’s ability while playing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before the former Manchester United striker moved to managed Cardiff last season.

The Welsh club actually failed in a bid to sign him in the January transfer market, but remain on his tail as David Marshall could leave the club this summer after impressing in the Premier League, despite the club’s relegation.
