Arsenal can expect competition in their quest to sign Fabian Schar

Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is currently struggling to earn a spot in the starting lineup in red and white colours. Such is the tremendous form of the present defence pair of the gunners – Per Mertesacker and Lourent Kocielny. Recent rumours suggest that Vermaelen may want to leave the Emirates club in search for more game time as the World Cup selection is coming around the corner. Former Ajax defender was linked with Newcastle and AC Milan.

Now the latest reports reveal that Arsenal are already to planning to sign a replacement for their captain. talkSPORT reported that Arsenal are very much interested in signing FC Basel defender Fabian Schar. The 21-year-old came into the spotlight after some good displays for both his club and country.

Anyway, Arsenal are not the only team interested in signing the Swiss wonderkid. Borussia Dortmund are also closely monitoring the progression of Fabian Schar. So, this might lead to a bidding war in January.

Schar has scored three goals in just four international appearance for the Swiss national team.. That’s some good stats for a centre back.
