Arsenal are attempting to reduce the injury problems that have plagued them over recent seasons by appointing Shad Forsythe as fitness coach,Goal report.
Forsythe is currently Germany’s head fitness coach, and will be joining the backroom team at the Emirates after the World Cup in Brazil. He joined Germany in 2004 during Jurgen Klinsmann’s spell as manager, and has been in charge of the national team’s physical preparation throughout the ten years since.
The 40-year-old American will work alongside Tony Colbert at Arsenal, the club’s long-standing first-team fitness coach. It is hoped that his arrival will help to modernise the way the Gunners prevent injuries.
Arsene Wenger ordered a review of the club’s training and medical methods following long-term injuries to Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere, and Mesut Ozil in quick succession last season. A physioroom.com study found that Arsenal players were unavailable as a result of injury for more time than those at any other Premier League club.
