Currently the Gunners sit atop the proverbial Group of Death in the Champions League, the sun seems to finally shine over the majestic Emirates Stadium in the azure skies.
It has been more than a delightful start for them in the Premier League as well, apart from the initial hiccups against Aston Villa on the opening day, the Gunners have just steam rolled past any opposition they have faced so far. They have looked a bit untidy at times, but that’s pardonable given their midfield is running like a well oiled engine. While Aaron Ramsey looks unstoppable and invincible every week, Flamini has been a tactical masterstroke in the middle of the pitch, albeit his retention and winning the ball back sills. Jack Wilshere has got over his injuries and looking sharp each passing day, Mikel Arteta’s return will certainly be the silver lining in the heart of the Midfield.
But it’s the strike power up front which looks wafer thin and short of options. Theo Walcott is on the side lines whereas Lukas Podolski is out for ten weeks, a certain niggle for Oliver Giroud will have Wenger’s heart in his mouth. With the January Transfer window lurking a couple of months away, we take a look at three strikers which will certainly bolster their attacking options:
Burak Yilmaz: The Turkish International has been in red hot form for the last couple of seasons and be eyeing a Premier League move to give himself a new challenge. Arsenal can now certainly splash the cash as Yilmaz’s move to Lazio has sensationally fallen through. His raw pace and speed to burn will be quite a handful for the Premier League teams to handle. Last season, his strike rate 0.82 was thanks to his 32 strikes in 39 appearances.
Jeremy Menez: If the one all draw against West Brom was to hint of any indication of Arsenal’s inability to break teams with a stubborn defence, PSG’s Jermey Menez is the answer. The French International is a mesmerising dribbler who likes to cut inside and then dart away with his pace. His offside awareness and his finishing skills will surely add to the firepower up front. This comes at a time when Menez has fallen out with PSG Manager Laurent Blanc and his future looks uncertain at best.
Diego Costa: Need we say more! This Athletico Madrid hitman has simply been unstoppable do far in the La Liga, hitting the back of the net at will. It’s been a long overdue for the Vicente Calderon faithful; after frustrating injury spells on the sidelines. With 10 goals this season already, he sits atop Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Quite a drastic change, given he scored the same number last campaign. It would certainly be quite interesting to see, how he reacts if a move to the EPL does materialize.
Somwhere after this list, Arsene Wenger might be laughing off his ridiculous £40m+1 bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, when suddenly Nikolas Bendtner says “Hi Boss” which echoes somewhere in the Dressing Room.
