Want-away Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner finally seems to be close to a move, according to reports. With the transfer window winding down, Bendtner’s camp was growing more and more worried about the lack of activity from suitors for the Danish frontman. But it now seems as if Stoke City or Everton are the likely destinations for Arsenal’s resident open goal miser and purveyor of pink boots.
Talking to the Danish press, Bendtner’s father (who is also his agent) said-
“I have nothing to say about anything right now. Just let me say that it is a very, very good day today”.
Unless Nick Senior has found a flurry of stray pennies on the street, we can only assume that the good day has to do with his son finally completing a move to another club.
Bendtner, despite being the subject of widespread derision from large sections of the Arsenal fan-base, has a fairly decent scoring record at the Emirates. He has 22 Premier league goals from 40 starts and 43 goals for Arsenal in total. This in spite of missing large parts of recent seasons through troublesome hamstrings and being played out of position. It has been suggested from within the club that a greater work ethic shown during games would have seen Bendtner reach somewhere near his full potential.
Bendtner found himself shunted to the bench for most of last term owing to the early season form of Marouane Chamakh and the post Christmas purple patch of Robin van Persie. But his best scoring patches at Arsenal have come when he was played as a central striker, and it seems like he will not get enough opportunities to play through the middle at Ashburton Grove.
Stoke City seem like a probable destination at the moment, with the presence of Danish keeper Thomas Sorenson being touted as a potential tipping factor. Although with Arsenal being linked with Everton players Jagielka, Baines and Arteta, a player plus cash swap could also be on the cards. Stay tuned to find out if Papa Bendtner gets any more happier.
