With Arsene Wenger set to depart this summer, the upcoming transfer window has attracted extra attention from the Arsenal fan base. The excitement for Wenger's successor to be announced is increasing with each passing day and also the anticipation for the players that the new man in charge will sign.
Arsenal has been linked with numerous players and managers day in day out for the past few weeks. Some rumours raise eyebrows, some seem realistic while some are there just for the sake of it. In this segment, we will take a look a look at all the major advancements that happen in the transfer world concerning Arsenal.
So without further ado, let's take a look at the transfer reports featuring Arsenal that made headlines on May 8:
Luis Enrique might be out of the Arsenal managerial race
John Cross of the Mirror has reported that Luis Enrique's salary demands may put him off limits to be the next Arsenal boss. Enrique and Massimiliano Allegri are said to be the front-runners for the Emirates hot seat.
But Enrique's reported demands of an annual salary of £15 million after tax has taken Arsenal by surprise. The Gunners currently pay Wenger £10 million per year and are not looking to exceed that figure for the next manager.
Arsenal chalk out a plan B for Arsene Wenger's successor
It has become clear that Arsenal's top choices for the club's next manager are Enrique and Allegri. But the Gunners are preparing for a backup plan if both of their top managerial candidates reject their offer.
The Daily Star has claimed that Arsenal have kept Carlo Ancelotti as a backup if they cannot lure Allegri or Enrique to the Emirates before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Arsenal will also look to have Patrick Viera or Mikel Arteta as an assistant to the former Chelsea boss.
Arsenal players fed up with Mesut Özil
After a scathing criticism from Martin Keown, Mesut Özil has now reportedly come under the wrath of his Arsenal teammates. The Sun has claimed that the majority of the Arsenal squad is fed up with Özil's lackadaisical attitude and is angered with the playmaker's inconsistency.
The players also suspect that the German is being allowed to choose which games to play which has not gone down well with them. Özil has not started 25 out of 58 games for Arsenal this season and has missed the last five Premier League matches.
Özil is Arsenal's highest paid player, earning £350,000 per week after signing a new deal.
Update on Jack Wilshere's future
The Mirror understands that Arsenal have placed a new offer on the table for Jack Wilshere and are confident of finding a breakthrough to the contractual standoff. Wilshere will be a free agent this summer and has been linked with the likes of Wolves and Everton.
But the Gunners have improved their original offer which will not see the midfielder take a pay cut as earlier reported.
