Arsenal Transfer Update: Galatasaray keen on Arshavin.

Sam

Turkish giants Galatasaray are ready to swoop for the Russian who has had an indifferent season with the Gunners last season (when compared to the standards he set the previous season, that is.) The thirty year old playmaker has been linked with a host of clubs recently with names like Aston Villa, Juventus and previous club Zenit St. Perersburg thrown into the fray.

Andrei: Turkey bound…?

According to reports emerging from The Sun, Galatasaray are preparing a bid for Andrei, and are in pole position to sing the diminutive Russian. Although Arsenal look set to lose many high profile players in Samir Nasri (to Man Utd/Milan), Cesc Fabregas (to Barca/Real Madrid) and Gael Clichy (to Liverpool/Man City) in the recent future, they don’t seem too reluctant in letting Arshavin leave. Reports suggest that his contract runs out next year, and the London club’s boss fears that they might later have to lose him for nothing. The Turks are considering a 13.5 million Pounds bid for the attacker, in order to lure him out of the Emirates.

The Russian had a sparkling start to his Premier League career when he first joined the Gunners from Zenit in 2008. His highest point in an Arsenal shirt was netting four goals against Liverpool, in November ’09. Since then, he has been in and out of the team- his standards have slightly dropped as well, owing to age and the rise of fringe players. But he has had his moments in each Premier League season, and is a fan favorite among the Gooners. Last year too, he scored the crucial goal which saw Arsenal beat Barcelona in a memorable game at the Emirates.

As Arsenal look to reshuffle their squad, bringing in the likes of Gervinho and Ricky Alvarez, one of the Premier League’s little dynamites is on his way out. He was a great character and loved by opposition fans alike. Arshavin will be missed, and we hope he has a great future wherever he goes.
