Wojciech Szczesny says he would like to see Leicester City FC win title race

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny says he would like to see Leicester City win the EPL title.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has claimed he would like to see title rivals Leicester City win the English Premier League. The Polish goalkeeper, who is currently on loan at Serie A side AS Roma, told Sky Italia that he is supporting Claudio Ranieri’s side in their bid to win the league.

Szczesny went to Roma on a season-long loan after losing his spot to David Ospina, before he then became third choice to the newly signed Peter Cech. And while Arsenal still have a mathematical chance of winning the title, Szczesny said it’s the Foxes he would like to see come out on top.

”Even though I support Arsenal in the Premier League, I’d like to see Ranieri’s side win it,” he said.

”They’re an example and an inspiration to everyone. It’s exciting to watch them play”.

After defeating Sunderland 2-0 last night, Leicester must now win three of their five remaining matches to clinch Premier League glory. Arsenal on the other hand, are 13 points behind Leicester City after they slipped to a 3-3 draw against West Ham despite going up 2-0.

Szczesny also spoke on his future with Arsenal, claiming that while he is currently happy playing in the Serie A, he is unsure where his future may be. Having joined the Arsenal academy in 2006, Szczesny made his first team debut in 2009 and had a reasonably successful spell at the club before he was displaced by David Ospina, who was signed after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“Everyone knows I’m really happy here,” he said. “I’d like to be able to tell you about my future, but I don’t know what it holds for me. I’ve expressed my intentions to the two clubs and now it’s up to them.

“I have to decide what’s best for my future”.

While Szczesny’s comments may not be deemed controversial considering Arsenal’s position in the title race, this isn’t the first time the Polish goalkeeper has been in the spotlight for his behaviour.

In July of last year it was reported that Szczesny was caught smoking in Arsenal’s dressing room showers after a 2-0 defeat to Southampton, while his father came out and openly criticised Wenger for dropping his son, claiming the reasons for Arsenal’s failings were the result of their defence, including Per Mertesacker who showed “the agility of a rhinoceros”.

With Szczesny still on the books at Arsenal, we’re sure Gunners fan won’t be happy with his recent comments, which may also be a subtle message to Arsene Wenger over his future.
