Luis Suarez leaving Liverpool “unlikely” – Arsene Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, for the first time, has acknowledged that it is highly unlikely to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool this summer.

Gunners boss has already seen the two bids for Suarez rejected in recent weeks, after making the Uruguayan striker his number one target in the transfer window this season.

However, Wenger has now confessed that with Liverpool are refusing to alter their stance on the controversial striker and are adamant that Suarez is not for sale.

“The issue is that the club sometimes does not want to sell at any price,” he said, according to Metro.

“In the example of Suarez and you are Liverpool, you have to calculate if you want to get into the Champions League, who are our rivals and do we want to sell to them?

“Unless they need the money or they have a clause or things like that, things do not always work out just because you keep putting the money up.”

Wenger made this comments less than 24 hours after Suarez apologised to his team-mates at Liverpool and joined the first-team for training. With Wenger’s admission now, it seems certain that Suarez will stay at Anfield.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have to set their sights on another striker. Having already lost out on Gonzalo Higuain and Stevan Jovetic, Wenger hasn’t had a good transfer season so far.
