Arsene Wenger annoyed after Mathieu Flamini cuts off shirt sleeves yet again

Mathieu Flamini cut off his sleeves for tonight’s match with Marseille

Mathieu Flamini has got onto Arsene Wenger’s wrong side after taking to the field against Marseille with his shirt sleeves crudely snipped off – for the second time in 10 days.

Flamini and Arsenal kit man Vic Ackers had apparently exchanged words after the former cut off his sleeves prior to the game against Manchester United.

An Arsenal source told the Daily Star: ‘Vic and Mathieu had heated words at the end of the game.

‘It is a tradition that all players wear the same shirt. Why he can’t simply roll his sleeves up rather than cut them off is beyond most of us.

‘But only Bacary Sagna gave Vic any support over the issue.

‘It didn’t help that the shirts were ones with a poppy on, that are sometimes auctioned off to raise money for charity.’

Last night against Marseille, while every other Arsenal player on the field was wrapped up in long sleeves and gloves, the midfielder was clearly not feeling the cold.

But the #SleeveGate did not go down well with Arsene Wenger, who said: “‘I don’t like that. He will not do it again.”

Flamini, however, insisted that he was fully entitled to dress how he liked.

“I have played at the top level for 10 years,” he said.

“I like to wear short sleeves.”

The Gunners have a club tradition of all wearing the same shirt sleeve length, which is chosen by the captain on every match.
