Wenger and Henry go way back

It has been 20 years of Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, and in that time he’s revolutionised the style of play, achieved things that no one ever thought was possible in the Premier League and most importantly changed the zipper on his jacket more times than we can count.

The Frenchman came to the country and replaced Bruce Rioch as Arsenal’s manager. He was welcomed with the headline ‘Arsene who’ as at that moment of time not many knew who he was.

There isn't a die hard football fan right now who doesn’t know who the man is now. Wenger, despite all his success, has also received a lot of stick from the fans. His career hasn’t all been smooth sailing and he has had several testing times as a manager.

Thierry Herny one of Arsenal’s greatest players and one of Wenger's greatest signings took his interview n his 20th anniversary. Henry who is Arsenal’s record goalscorer has always remained a big admirer of Wenger and learnt a lot from his mentor.

Henry who works for Sky Sports caught up with him and questioned him on several topics on behalf of the media outlet. One of them was the best and worst moments of his Arsenal career. This is what he said:

“The best moment is maybe when we won our first title and after that the Invincible year because I think the dream of every coach is to make a spotless year. The 2004 season was exceptional because you had everything. “

“The players had individual quality, we were a team and we had natural collective spirit. It was just exceptional. A moment you never have in your career, basically.”

And this was his worst moment:

“One of the worst moments was last year when we lost at Manchester United. It was the moment where you felt the championship is lost. It was a game we couldn't afford to lose and not to turn up on the day, you wonder 'what did I do wrong there? What didn't work?”

“It was a game we were expected to win, absolutely. We had to win it but I felt, more than losing the game, we were just not at the races on the day.”

We have a more mature squad : Wenger

Henry decided to ask a question which many critics have been asking themselves about this Arsenal side. Can Arsenal win the title this year? Here’s what he said:

“I believe so. I believe we are more mature, we are better equipped, we have a squad that's not made of kids anymore but a squad made of mature players, who have experience. It comes down to how consistent we will be and that is down to producing the performances every three days now.”

Arsenal after a poor couple of games have really kicked into gear this season. Thier most famous victory so far was the game against arch rivals Chelsea who they disposed of 3-0 at home. It’s the kind of result that gives every player a confidence boost.

But the Gunners had a similar result at a similar time last season when they destroyed Manchester United by the same scoreline, but their season eventually went up in flames towards the end. So keep those fingers crossed Arsenal fans.
