Jordan Veretout, who has been in terrific form this season, produced another sensational goal to rack up double figures in the league for the very first time.

After wasting a promising attacking move with a feeble effort early on, Veretout was determined to right the wrong; he got the opportunity to do so just five minutes into the second half.

After stepping around two AC Milan defenders, the 27-year old twisted inside the box and lifted a powerful finish into the right corner of the post beyond the despairing dive of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It meant Veretout joined Michel Platini as the only midfielders to tally ten league goals for AS Roma in a season.

Parity proved to be shortlived, though, as AC Milan soon restored their lead and hung on for all three points on the night.

Flop: Borja Mayoral (AS Roma)

AS Roma managed eight shots on target, but quite notably, not a single one was by striker Borja Mayoral, who was nowhere to be seen in the game.

After usurping Edin Dzeko as the side's leading marksman, Mayoral scored six times this season. So he was the key to AS Roma's fortunes against AC Milan.

However, the Spaniard turned out to be a damp squib, failing to muster a single effort in the match and getting completely eclipsed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was the chief orchestrator for AS Roma up front.

Hit: Franck Kessie (AC Milan)

Franck Kessie was on target from the spot again for AC Milan.

AC Milan's impressive campaign this season is down to a rich vein of form of many of their first-team players. One such player is Franck Kessie, who is often underrated and overlooked in the big games.

However, like in midweek when the Ivorian's penalty saw the Rossoneri though to last16 of the Europa League, Kessie came up trumps from the spot once again, slotting home into the bottom right corner to put his side in front.

Thereafter, even though chances were hard to come by, Kessie made some excellent tackles to regain possession and set AC Milan on a few promising counters.

He was adept in both dribbling and distributing the ball, while his hold-up play allowed his attacking counterparts to take up good positions in the AS Roma box, to create a lot of nervy moments.
