The Hague - Midfielder Adam Maher said Wednesday that he wanted to leave AZ Alkmaar for PSV Eindhoven.

According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, PSV offered AZ five million euros for Maher, 19, but Alkmaar club wanted to double this amount, reports Xinhua.

“I want to join PSV. Period,” Maher said. “For me this is the ideal intermediate step to get to the top. And it’s time to battle for trophies again.”

“At some point you have to say: ‘This is a great price for a home grown player, we are proud of this transfer will allow the move’. I’m waiting for the moment when the clubs reach a deal,” Maher said.

AZ has so far denied having received a serious bid for Maher and declared that a sale in the January transfer window is in principle no option. Maher’s contract at AZ runs until mid-2015.

Maher is one of the biggest talents in Dutch football. He has already played 51 Eredivisie matches, scoring nine times.

The Moroccan born midfielder debuted for the Dutch team Aug 15, 2012 against Belgium (2-4 loss) and played his second match for the Netherlands one month later against Hungary (4-1 win).
