Rumour: Barcelona prepare £40m bid for Manchester United star Juan Mata

Juan Mata heading to Barcelona?

Reports in Spanish newspaper AS say that Barcelona are set to sign Spanish magician Juan Mata from Manchester United.

With age catching up with Xavi and the futures of Cristian Tello and Cesc Fabregas in doubt, Barcelona are acting swiftly and planning to make a stunning £40m bid for Mata.

Mata was signed by Manchester United in the winter transfer window from Chelsea for a record fee of £37.1 million. He has scored 6 goals and provided 6 assists since his big money move to Manchester United.

With new Barcelona manager Luis Enrique coy over the future of Cesc Fabregas, it looks like they are looking for available options in the market, with Juan Mata topping their list. Earlier, Barcelona were also interested in signing Manchester City’s David Silva to bolster their midifield.

Mata leaving Manchester United would be a massive blow for United fans, and apparently, new incoming manager Louis Van Gaal is also interested in selling the Spanish starlet. Juan Mata was signed by Andres Vilas Boas back in 2011 from Valencia, and he won two consecutive awards for player of the season with Chelsea before making a move to Old Trafford.
