Barcelona Complete Transfer Of Hercules Player Francisco Femenia
Francisco Femenia has passed his medical with Barcelona and will play with the B side, reports say. The 20 year old midfielder who formerly played for Hercules, had earlier admitted to being ‘very excited’ after hearing Barcelona rumours, and he must be over the moon after the transfer came to pass.
The official website of Barcelona ran the following statement-
“The new Barcelona B player has passed his medical exams at the Hospital of Barcelona.
“The medics gave Femenia the all-clear and he will join the squad of Eusebio Sacristan [Barcelona B coach].”
Femenia, who plays as a right midfielder, is a product of Hercules’s youth academy. While he is certainly talented enough, he has been party to a couple of well-known and controversial incidents with his parent club.
Firstly, he made his first team debut at the age of 17 against Cadiz CF in a Segunda Division match. It is understood that awarding contracts to players under the age of 18 is illegal in Spain, and thus Femenia was ineligible to play in the match concerned. The match ended 1-1 and confirmed Cadiz’s relegation, even though they protested the illegal fielding of an opposition player.
The other noteworthy incident came in his debut match in the top division, against Athletic Bilbao. He made a couple of poor choices and shoddy decisions after coming on as a substitute, and suffered an anxiety attack on the field. Although he fully recovered afterwards, his team lost the match 1-0.
But he will now be looking to put all anxiety attacks behind him as he gets ready to play in the biggest stage football has to offer- The Camp Nou. If he performs well for the B side, he might well get a chance to showcase his talents alongside luminaries such as Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandez in the high-flying first team.
It remains to be seen what Femenia’s future holds. But his present is surely rosy as they come.
