Barcelona confirm €4 million deal with Sao Paulo's Douglas Pereira

FC Barcelona have come to an initial agreement with Sao Paulo for signing Brazilian defender Douglas Pereira for a fee of €4 million.

Barcelona confirm deal via statement on their official site

In an official statement, the Catalan club stated that the 24-year-old will arrive in Catalunya for a medical by the end of this week and will join the La Liga side on a five-year deal. A performance-base clause could add a further €1.5 million to the transfer fee, reported Xinhua.

Sao Paulo holds 60 percent of the player's economic rights with the balance held by sports marketing firm Traffic.

"FC Barcelona and Sao Paulo FC have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of the player Douglas Pereira," read a statement on the Camp Nou outfit's official website.

"The cost of operation is €4 million plus €1.5m in variables that are dependent upon games played.

"Douglas will travel to Barcelona this weekend for a medical exam... (and) sign a five-year contract."

Sao Paulo president unhappy over Douglas’ departure

The announcement comes after Sao Paulo last week confirmed the parties had reached an in-principle agreement. Carlos Migue Aidar, president of Sao Paulo, expressed his sadness on the departure of Costa and revealed that a third party ownership had complicated the deal

"This is not a moment of joy, as we are losing one of our starters, but now he will be able to play at the Champions League," said Aidar."We wish the player all the happiness, and that he may have a great spell in Spain. And who knows, maybe Sao Paulo can count on him again in a couple of years."It was a complicated deal, as the club had a third party involved, but, ultimately, Sao Paulo managed to get €3.6m for its 60 per cent share on the player's rights, as it should."

Douglas will be Barcelona’s third defensive recruitment of the campaign after the Blaugranas signed Jeremy Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen.
