Barcelona confirm they have signed Denis Suarez
The former Villarreal man signs on a four year deal with a buyout clause of 50 million euros
Barcelona have confirmed that they have re-signed Denis Suarez from Villarreal. The Catalans had inserted a buy-back clause into Suarez’ contract when he left the club, and have decided to activate said clause, which will cost the La Liga champions €3.25million, signing Suarez on a four-year contract.
The midfielder shone for Villarreal last season, assisting 13 goals and scoring 5 goals in 48 appearances as the Yellow Submarines qualified for the UEFA Champions League by finishing 4th in La Liga. His performances have caught the eye, with Barcelona activating his buyback clause and signing him to a new deal that sets his buyout at a pricely €50 million.
Suarez has never played for the Barcelona first team, but the 22-year-old is sure to a part of manager Luis Enrique’s plans, with the lack of back-up to Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar Jr. cited as one of the reasons for the Blaugrana’s late season wobble in the league.
As part of the deal, Barcelona also retain the option of keeping Suarez for 5 years, but it is based on the number of appearances he makes for the Catalans in his fourth season. With Luis Enrique’s side having missed out on the signing of Nolito, who signed for Manchester City, Suarez’s presence in the squad takes increased importance, especially with Arda Turan having disappointed as a back-up option.
