Barcelona are keen to add Liverpool centre-back Daniel Agger to their ranks according to reports.

Luis Enrique seems intent to make his mark on the Barcelona squad for the upcoming season and the restructuring of the backline seems to be one his biggest areas of interest. With Carlos Puyol’s retirement, the Catalans are bound to be short of leadership qualities at the back even with the presence of Gerard Pique and Dani Alves.

However, Enrique is leaving no stone unturned to fortify the defensive side of things for Barcelona. The recent signings of Jérémy Mathieu from Valencia, along with the recruitment of the new keeping duo of Marc-André ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo represents a whole new set of players that the ex-Roma manager wishes to induct amongst the Catalan ranks at the back.

Now, the former Celta Vigo manager seems to be turning his eyes towards building depth at the spine of the Barcelona defence with a €15 miliion move for Daniel Agger.

Agger meanwhile, might find it tough to break through into the side at Anfield regularly with Liverpool reportedly also bringing in Dejan Lovren, adding to their plethora of options at the centre-back position. The Danish centre back last season often saw himself played out of position at left-back by Brendan Rodgers to allow the pairing of Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho to flourish at the centre of the park.

Now with the addition of Lovren and the presence of Kolo Toure, Agger faces an uphill task to establish himself back as Brendan Rodgers’ number one choice at the heart of the defence.

With Jose Enrique and young Jon Flannagan set to to fight out for the place at left-back, Agger might swiftly become an afterthought at Anfield.
