The two big Catalan newspapers, Mundo Deportivo and Sport, yesterday carried the news that Barcelona were looking to add another striker to their ranks in January.

It is reported that Barca manager ‘Tata’ Martino is keen to sign another striker to add more potency to his forward line in a bid to ensure that his team can effectively compete for trophies on various fronts. The criterion though seems to be a striker who they can get for a relatively low fee as the Catalan giants are most likely to spend big on a goalkeeper and central defender come next year.

And in a poll conducted amongst Barca fans, Celtic striker Georgios Samaras has emerged top of the pile in the list of prime candidates. 40% of those polled wanted the Greek striker to be the latest addition to Martino’s squad with German veteran Miroslav Klose next with 25% of the votes. These two strikers are said to be the most likely choices say the two Barca papers.

Samaras is said to fit the bill as he is a tall striker, good at heading while being equally good with the ball at his feet. He would also add a slightly different dimension to the Barca frontline.
