Barcelona defender Gerard Pique rages at 'manipulative' Madrid media on Twitter

Pique Barcelona Madrid Media manipulative
Gerard Pique is not shy about his opinions on Twitter

Gerard Pique has lashed out at a publication for their ‘biased’ anti-Barcelona reporting on Twitter yet again. The Catalan centre-back lambasted a Madrid-based publication for an inflammatory headline on Twitter, labelling the ‘manipulative’ media outlet a disgrace.

The Barcelona defender was in the spotlight in the game against Sporting Gijon, despite the Blaugrana winning the game 6-0. With the game poised at 1-0 and Barcelona struggling, Pique cleared a ball of the line, with the ball appearing to touch his shoulder, although his arm was in a natural position next to his body, a legal clearance.

After the match, Pique spoke to the media, but played down the incident, saying “The cameras show that I didn't touch the ball. It’s not an issue as far as I am concerned.”

However, Madrid-based outlet Diario ABC did not share the same opinion, publishing their match report with the image of the incident in question, titled ‘The Pique handball which the referee did not give’. Pique took umbrage at the style of ABC's publishing, taking to Twitter to criticise the publication.

Tweeting “How can you manipulate things in this way? It’s a disgrace.” Pique left no one in doubt about his opinion of ABC’s editorial policy, while attaching the story in question in his tweet:

Pique has raged against ‘anti-Barcelona’ media before

This isn’t Piques first clash with the media. El Espanyol had castigated the referee for not sending Pique off in Barcelona’s draw with Villarreal a few weeks ago, but Pique took offence at editor Pedro J. Ramirez, saying “Why don’t you speak about the first yellow? Because it doesn’t interest you. Take off your shirt when you’re being a journalist.”

Earlier in the year, Pique had taken aim at ABC, retweeting a tweet that noted the difference in the coverage of Real Madrid's and Barcelona’s respective Club World Cup wins, with the former yielding a full page image of Sergio Ramos and was described as the ‘best in the world’, while Barcelona's win was described as a victory in an ‘absurd’ competition, with only a tweet.
