Qatar Airways look to secure naming rights for Barcelona's Camp Nou

Barcelona club sponsors Qatar Airways have indicated that a possible name change of their iconic stadium Camp Nou as they are about to rework their sponsorship agreement with the club. Qatar Airways had signed a five-year deal of an estimated 165 million euro ($190 m) which is hinted to be extended.

In a press conference, as quoted by Goal, Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker has divulged that their establishment’s name might be connected to the popular Catalonian home stadium after a new deal is worked out with Barcelona. Their present contract as the main sponsor of the former La Liga champions runs out in 2016 and the airline company is interested in making a new deal with the club.

"Everything is a possibility for our company, we’re open to surprises and one of these could be connected to the name of Camp Nou," he said. "Qatar Airways and Barcelona have the same values. It is possible that our name is added to Camp Nou."

Barcelona vice-President Javier Faus has claimed about a possible renogotiation between both the parties. He said: "Barcelona have nothing but gratitude for Qatar Airways. We are extremely satisfied with Qatar Airways and I can assure you there are zero problems with Qatar Airways, zero with Qatar and we definitely hope that this partnership lasts many, many, more years.”

"We are set to negotiate a new deal with them. A final decision will be made this year," he added.
