Luis Suarez: Looking for a prolonged stay at the Nou Camp

After extended his contract with Barcelona, Luis Suarez has urged his teammate Lionel Messi to pen a new deal with the Catalan club. The Uruguayan striker agreed to extend his stay with the reigning La Liga champions until the year 2021.

The club made the announcement on Thursday about the Uruguayan striker’s decision to stay at the club for a further five years and are hoping that Messi will soon make a decision on his future and commit to the club where his career started. With Messi’s contract due to expire in 2018, Suarez feels that nothing will bring him more joy than his teammate renewing his contract with the club.

"My happiness will be complete only if Messi renews his contract as well," Suarez told reporters. "But my renewal is not a message to Messi. He is old enough to know what is good for him."

Lionel Messi was beaten to the prestigious Ballon d'Or award by Portuguese international, Cristiano Ronaldo earlier this week but Suarez insists that it should have been his Barcelona team mate lifting the sought after trophy and that he deserves to win it every year.

"Everyone has their own criteria," he added. "But as far as I'm concerned, Leo deserves to win it every year because of what he gives to football. He is the best."

Luis Suarez also spoke about his thoughts on retirement and the importance of enthusiasm and ambition despite what the situation is. The 29-year-old will be 34 by the time his contract expires with Barcelona.

"Any player would want to end their career at a club where they feel comfortable," the striker stressed. "We will have to see, but I will never lose either my ambition or my enthusiasm."

The Uruguay international's teammate Neymar Jr had also extended his contract with the club back in October which will also see him stay at the Catalan club until the year 2021. The former Ajax and Liverpool striker helped Barcelona win the Copa del Rey, La Liga and also scored the winning goal against Juventus in the Champions League final held in Berlin in 2015.

Luis Suarez was unstoppable for Barcelona last season having scored 40 goals in La Liga alone, his total goal tally in all competitions last season was 59. Luis Suarez also received the European Golden Boot award for scoring the most goals in Europe.
