What’s the rumour?

According to The Sun, Barcelona, Paris St-Germain and Real Madrid are ready to make a move for Liverpool's Mohammed Salah. The 25-year-old has shot into super-stardom this season owing to his incredible performances for club and country.

In case you didn't know:

Salah was loaned by Chelsea to Roma ahead of the 2015-16 season and he made the move permanent the next year. During his stint there, he scored 34 goals in all competitions, which caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp who bought him for £37.8 million in 2017.

He has been arguably the signing of the season and has taken the Premier League by storm. He has scored 36 goals in 40 games for the club and finds himself in the running for the Premier League Golden Boot as well as the European Golden Shoe.

His scintillating and consistent performances has caught the eye of many scouts across the world, and if rumours are to be believed, Barcelona, PSG and Real Madrid will try to rope in him this summer.

The heart of the matter:

As a result of a weak title defence this season, Madrid are ready to overhaul their squad this summer. Many world-class players are on their transfer wishlist and Salah appears to be one of them.

Barcelona are also interested in signing the Egyptian who has been even likened to Lionel Messi by many, including Jurgen Klopp. They swooped in and bought Philippe Coutinho in January and are ready to bring another Liverpool player to the Nou Camp. The Barcelona hierarchy reportedly wants Salah to come and play alongside Messi.

PSG were not able to qualify for the Semi-Finals of the Champions League again, as they were eliminated in the Round-of-16 itself by Real Madrid. They want to set that record straight next season and are prepared to spend big this summer and it is no surprise Salah is on their radar as well.

Rumour rating/probability - 7/10

Despite many sources reporting the same news and although there may be some truth in all of their interest in the player, it is unlikely that Liverpool will sell their star player particularly as they look forward to challenging on all fronts next season.

Author’s take

Liverpool may not be able to resist if any of the top clubs come in with a world record £200 million offer for the player and they may be inclined to sell him. He has definitely taken his game to another level this season and would be a prized asset to any team in Europe. Liverpool are likely to resist as much as they can and will need to find quality replacements if they decide to sell him.
