Barcelona superstar "flattered" by Manchester United interest

Cesc Fabregas has claimed he was ‘flattered’ by interest from Manchester United last summer, but is pleased with his decision to remain with Barcelona.

Fabregas was the subject two bids in August to lure him back to the Premier League, but found neither club or player interested in their advances.

United eventually made Marouane Fellaini their only midfield acquisition of the summer after trying to sign a number of midfield targets and while Fabregas was flattered that the Red Devils were keen on him, he wants to remain a Barcelona player for the foreseeable future.

The former Arsenal captain told BBC Sport: “I do follow the Premier League a lot and it’s always flattering when a club like Manchester United talks very well about you and you can see why they want you.

“But I am going through an amazing moment [at Barca] now. I’m playing every week and feel very important to the team. I’m very happy right now.

“This season I have felt more like myself, with more freedom and more secure with the way I like to play. It’s not easy when you know you have to convince many fans how good you are and how good you can be for the team.

“The manager (Gerardo Martino) has trusted me and given me what I needed. I am probably going through my best spell here.”

Fabregas left Arsenal in 2011 to return home to his Catalan roots and has improved season by season to become an integral member of the Barcelona squad after two years of frustration with squad rotation at Camp Nou.

Cesc Fabregas has claimed a massive ten assists this season for Barcelona, more than any Premier League player and more than Manchester United’s midfield options combined.
