Barcelona announce resignation of Tito Vilanova
Barcelona announce the resignation of Tito Vilanova as the team’s coach, following what is believed to be a relapse of cancer.
It should be recalled that last season was Tito’s first full term as full time coach of Barcelona, but even during the season he had to take a “sick leave” because of his illness.
Tito’s resignation opens up an interesting conundrum for Barcelona regarding the next manager as well as the future of midfielder Cesc Fabregas, whom Tito liked a lot.
Vilanova had a successful last season, winning the La Liga title, though it was nowhere near close to what Pep achieved. Pep was in a war of words with Barcelona regarding him not meeting Tito while he was in the hospital.
Rumours are going around that the next in line for the Barcelona hot seat is Tito’s assistant, Joan Francesc Ferrer “Rubi”, as well as Spurs manager Andre Villas Boas. The successor is scheduled to be announced next week.
