Barcelona transfer news: Valverde's Umtiti warning, deal done for defender and more - 11th January 2017

Pique believes Umtiti will stay for many years at Camp Nou

Umtiti warns Manchester clubs over Umtiti interest

The 24-year-old centre-back has turned out to be a top signing for Barcelona by forming a solid pairing with Pique in the heart of the Blaugrana's defence. This has attracted interest from Manchester City whose defence could be better.

Valverde, however, has come out to address the rumours and said:

"I’m not worried about what clubs might or might not do. Umtiti is a great player and we expect him to stay at Barca for many more years and for him to enjoy his football with us."
"To an extent, the buyout clause is made high so that you can’t buy the player. As time goes by, that fee doesn’t seem so high at all, but the player still has to want to leave. We’re very happy with Umtiti and I’m sure he’s going to stay here for a very long time."

While the rumours circulate, such a strong statement from one of the club's seniors will definitely help the cause in case Umtiti's mind is unclear about his future.

Barcelona announce Yerry Mina

Palmeiras v Santos - Brasileirao Series A 2016
Second January signing?

The 23-year old Palmeiras centre-back was set to join the Spanish giants in the summer for a fee of around €8 million. However, the impending departure of Javier Mascherano to Hebei China Fortune has led to the deal being brought forward.

Now, Barcelona have finally completed the deal for their second January signing with Mina joining the Blaugrana for €11.8 million. The Colombian signed a contract till 2023 and the club released a statement saying:

“Yerry Mina now comes to Barca with the opportunity to continue developing as a footballer following his move to Europe. Without a doubt, the Colombian has the potential to make it.”

Further, the 23-year old has a €100 million release clause now and is expected to replace Mascherano in the current squad, who is now expected to complete his transfer away from the Catalan club.

Arda Turan edging towards Turkey move

Barcelona Training Session and Press Conference
Turan looks set to return home to Turkey

The former Atletico Madrid attacker failed to click at Camp Nou and has disappointed the new boss, Valverde this season as well. Now, he is further down the pecking order with the arrival of Philippe Coutinho. Hence, the 30-year old has been looking for a move away from Barcelona and has been linked to several clubs, including the likes of Arsenal and Everton.

However, it is likely that Turan will move to the Turkish side, Istanbul Basaksehir, who are ahead in the race to sign Turan.
