What’s the story?

Barcelona star Jasper Cillessen has expressed his frustration at Barcelona board, claiming that the Catalan giants asking for huge transfer fee does not help his case.

It is no secret that Cillessen wants to move out of the club in the summer transfer window but the asking price of €60 million might be a huge obstacle.

In case you didn’t know…

Since his arrival at Nou Camp in 2016, Cillessen is yet to earn the full trust of the Blaugrana hierarchy and become a regular starter in the team. It is crystal clear that Marc-Andre ter Stegen is the undisputed first choice goalkeeper of the Catalan giants while Cillessen is only starting in the domestic cup competitions.

The 30-year-old has featured in 11 matches in the 2018/19 season, playing for just around 1000 minutes in all competitions this campaign. Cillessen remains the first choice goalkeeper for Netherlands and he has made it clear that he wants to leave Barcelona for more game time.

The heart of the matter

The Catalan giants are set for a busy summer transfer window, with numerous stars on their way out from the club. But their stance on Cillessen remains to be seen. They have already reportedly turned down an offer of €25m from Benfica for the former Ajax goalkeeper.

Cillessen expressed his discontent as a high asking price might make his move away from the club more difficult.

Speaking in an interview with VTBI, the Blaugrana keeper said:

"The fact Barça are asking for 60 million euros doesn't help. I'm still relaxed about it. We just need to wait and see."

But Cillessen also admits that he won't make a decision on his future soon.

"I'll consider my options after my summer holiday. But I'm looking for a club in one of the top five leagues in Europe."

What’s next?

It remains to be seen which club Cillessen joins in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, the 2018/19 season is over for Barcelona and the players will focus on their duties with their respective national teams. Cillessen will feature for the Dutch in the UEFA Nations League.
