Nathaniel Clyne (L) has been Liverpool’s most consistent defender since his move from Southampton

FC Barcelona had done commendable business in the summer as the Catalans invested in youth rather than on experienced players as the board decided that it was the right time to invest for the club's future. Andre Gomes and Samuel Umtiti are some the young talents that Barcelona brought in the summer which is going to form the Spanish giants' spine for the coming years. The board has already said to be identifying their future targets as Liverpool's fullback Nathaniel Clyne is reported to be on Barca's radar in January.

Barcelona have struggled to replace Dani Alves as the experienced fullback went on a free transfer to Juventus before the start of the new season. The Spanish champions used Aleix Vidal and Sergi Roberto as right back but both the players have struggled to do justice in that role. As a result, Barcelona have struggled defensively this season with the Catalans currently in the third spot in La Liga sitting two points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Luis Enrique has used Javier Mascherano at times at right back but the Argentine has been experiencing a surprising slump in his form. Roberto has failed to capitalise on the opportunities he has been given and Vidal has had a fallout with manager Luis Enrique. The former Sevilla man is counting his last days at Camp Nou as he is said to be the first player who will be offloaded in the next transfer window.

A brilliant signing for the Reds

Nathaniel Clyne has been brilliant for Liverpool since his £12.5 million move from Southampton in 2014. He has hardly missed a game for the Reds and is one of the first names on the team sheet under Jurgen Klopp. The 25-year-old has started in 12 of the 13 games with the England international receiving a well-deserved rest in their 2-1 victory against Spurs in the EFL Cup.

Often termed as Liverpool's Mr. Consistent, Barcelona will have to offer a huge sum to prize him away from Anfield and secure his services during his peak years. Liverpool are rumored to have set the asking price for the former Crystal Palace man at £35 million which might be a question to worry for the Catalans. If Barcelona fail in their attempts to land the experienced fullback in Clyne, Shakhtar Donetsk’s Darijo Srna and Juventus’ Stephan are said to be their backup targets for the right back position.
