Barcelona's Tito Vilanova says Pep Guardiola's accusations wrong

Barcelona v Paris St Germain - UEFA Champions League Quarter Final

Barcelona‘s coach Tito Vilanova has come out for the first time and reacted strongly to his predecessor Pep Guardiola’s accusations.

Earlier, Pep had accused the directors of the club of not letting him go in peace after he quit, by placing unnecessary accusations against him. “I will never forget that they used Tito’s illness to cause me damage, because it’s a lie that I never saw him in New York.”

Vilanova has said that Pep had met him once when he was on the trip to New York, but subsequently when in New York over the next two months while recovering from surgery, he had not been visited.

Being his friend, he believed that Pep should have been there for him, and it was unfortunate that he wasn’t available. Putting matters in perspective, Vilanova went on to add that no one had blamed Guardiola for any of the happenings.

“You know that I’ve always tried to avoid personal matters and only talk about football, but I heard what Pep said and I don’t think it was right. He surprised me. I don’t think anyone on the board of directors has used me to attack him. They’ve helped me in every way possible,” he said.

Stating that there were no problems between them because of his elevation as coach, Vilanova said that they had known each other for a long time now and had been part of some amazing victories in the past and he surely wants to move forward.
