Berahino injured in player bust-up in West Brom dressing room after Cardiff draw

Following Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Cardiff, there was a dressing-room argument between players, which gave way to a physical altercation between English Under-21 striker Saido Berahino and another unnamed player, according to reports, which resulted in Berahino suffering from a head injury.

However, West Bromwich Albion has played down the severity of the dressing-room argument, which ensued following the dramatic injury-time equaliser that Cardiff had scored at the Hawthorns.

“What happened is not uncommon in a dressing room and shows that the players care” a West Brom spokesman said, “Tensions were understandably running high in the dressing room, but the incident has been sensationalised in the media,” added the spokesman.

The encounter was crucial for both the relegation threatened teams, as they are currently in the bottom five of the league. On Saturday, West Brom surrendered an early 2-0 advantage, as Cardiff fought back to draw level, before the home side scored an injury-time goal through Thievy Bifouma, from a Berahino cross, which many perceived as the winner.

However, Berahino lost possession, setting up Cardiff to counter and enabled Mats Molled Daehli to score a dramatic 95th-minute equaliser. The draw saw West Brom slip to 17th in the table, and remain only three points clear of Cardiff with only a couple of games remaining as the end of the season draws close.

“What happened is not uncommon in a dressing room and shows that the players care,” added Albion’s spokesman.

“The players involved have apologised. The club has drawn a line under the matter and is now fully focusing on Saturday’s important game at Norwich.”

Following the game, Berahino tweeted the following:
