Berlin, Nov 28 (IANS) Hertha Berlin came from behind to beat Mainz 2-1 while Schalke bounced back to edge Darmstadt 3-1 in the 12th round of Bundesliga football action.

Berlin snatched their sixth consecutive win on home soil on Sunday as Vedad Ibisevic scored his 99th and 100th Bundesliga goals to turn the tide against Mainz, reports Xinhua.

The hosts dominated the proceedings in the opening period and broke the deadlock in the 25th minute as Aaron Seydel capitalised on a rebound from close range.

Berlin restored parity eleven minutes later when Salomon Kalou teed up for Ibisevic, who curled the ball from the edge of the box into the top right corner of the net.

Mainz suffered another setback after the restart, as Jean-Philippe Gbamin saw his second yellow card of the evening to get his marching orders in the 62nd minute. To make things worse for the visitors, Berlin took advantage of their numerical advantage as Ibisevic poked home the 2-1 lead five minutes later.

With the result, Berlin climbed from sixth to third in the standings, whereas Mainz slipped from eighth to ninth in the standings.

Elsewhere, Schalke extended their unbeaten run to seven games after bouncing back from a 0-1 deficit to bag a 3-1 victory on home soil.

With their fifth win of the season, Schalke moved from 11th to eight while Darmstadt stayed at 15th.
